Some info about the movie.
The boy in the striped pajamas is a movie that was produced by Miramax, Heyday Films and BBC Films. It is based on John Boyne's 2006 novel that goes by the same name. The film is centred around one of the characters called Bruno who is the son of a Nazi general that was promoted to take charge of one of the concentration camps. As the family has to move to a remote location Bruno becomes bored and wonders off into the forest where he soon comes across the concentration camp  and meets Shmuel and they soon become friends.

Analysis of the film poster

Upon first glance the poster might not seem to go into many details about the film but the subtle elements do in fact give the viewer a large portion of information that is placed through hiding meanings and connotations.

The first thing that a stands out the most in the poster is the fact that Shmuel and Bruno are sitting on opposite sides of a barged wire electrocuted fence. This symbolises that they are not only physically separated to stay on their own sides but also by belief as at the time most Germans would believe that Jews are an evil race. The razer sharp edges on the barbed wire fence could also symbolise the sharpness of reality and what actually happened during the holocaust.

The two boys are also seen to be wearing different clothing, Bruno on the left is seen to wear a set of smart clothes in the poster whereas Shmuel is seemingly wearing ragged prison clothes. This is not only a symbolisation that Shmeul is infact a prison at the camp but also emphasis the Nazi believe that Germans are superior to the Jews that could possibly be seen by their clothing.

  1. Good choice. Add more on the structure, layout - treat as an unseen image as you would for the Comp 1 exam
